The Supply Chain Agent is responsible for procuring major food products at the lowest cost & highest quality to ensure compliance with all applicable specification requirements. Negotiates and awards business to appropriate suppliers utilizing binding contracts to ensure all aspects of the negotiated terms such as price points, delivery terms, requirements, period of performance timelines are properly documented. Provides recommendations regarding hedging strategies and timelines for implementing coverage Provides guidance and support in the new product development process, ensuring all products are placed into the system in a timely manner and at the optimum cost.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

May perform any or all of the following duties:

Via a documented solicitation process obtains and analyzes competitive bids from suppliers, conducts negotiations on price points, quality compliance, payment options and delivery dates.  Selects the supplier proposing the most competitive package in conjunction with the highest quality

  • Provides recommendations for hedging positions of major expenditure commodities
  • Acts as a liaison between the company and the applicable supplier concerning delivery dates, technical problems, material deviations, damage claims, etc. Works closely with Quality Control, Product Development, Product Optimization, and Inventory Management.
  • Researches, analyzes, forecasts and budgets product line costs.
  • Participates in the development of procurement strategies including hedging, requirements planning, alternate sourcing, timing of purchasing, inventory level adjustments etc.
  • Monitors responsible commodities taking approved positions and provides routine position variances.
  • Verifies weekly commodity based variable costs.
  • Participates in the establishment of a company-wide food cost budget. Evaluates and analyzes previous contracts, performs market research to establish pricing trends, and investigates market conditions.
  • Provides weekly and period end cost reports to management with supporting data on levels of activity, actual costs compared to budgeted costs, service levels and major variances in price points and or product availability.
  • Participates in company meetings, webinars and conference calls
  • Other duties and/or special projects as assigned in response to changing business conditions and/or requirements
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES
  • Approximately five (5) years of food purchasing responsibility preferably foodservice
  • BS or BA Degree (in a related field) required
  • Knowledge of product specifications and distribution
  • Detailed knowledge of various food commodities markets
  • Working knowledge of product specifications and distribution
  • Strong background in analysis both quantitative and qualitative
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Google
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management both internally and externally
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic; commitment to seeing duties completed at a high standard of quality

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Corporate Office environment, fast paced, high volume of activity at times

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Constant interaction with internal and external partners by phone and/or electronic communications
  • Sitting for extended periods of time, using telephone, typing and/or operating a computer and/or mouse
  • Travel as needed approximately 20%
