Role Summary 
The Vice President, Legal role will direct, manage, and provide primary legal support and advice on employment matters, litigation and compliance.  The role will function as a critical business partner and legal advisor to key business units, partners and franchisees.  

Employment Law and Compliance
Assist the Human Resources department in the management and handling of all labor and employment related matters in the Company.  
Provide preventative, proactive legal guidance and direction on matters such as hiring, transitions, discipline, investigations, wage-and hour matters, legal compliance, unemployment and workers compensation and HR-related initiatives.  
Advise on business initiatives that affect employment-related matters.  
Address and respond to EEOC, Department of Labor, and state and local enforcement agency actions. 
Provide strategic counsel supporting the development and drafting of employment-related policies and procedures. 
Ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations. 
Coordinate and lead Company-wide education on employment-related matters. 

Litigation 
Develop and direct overall and individual litigation strategy; coordinate with and manage outside counsel. 
Provide strategic leadership throughout discovery, investigation and litigation.   
Lead mitigation efforts to address risks as they arise.  
Provide legal counsel and leadership in crisis-management situations. 
Effectively manage litigation budgets.
Supervision of Paralegal, including but not limited to training, coaching, goal setting, oversight of various projects and day-to-day workloads, to maximize the efficiency and drive results. 

Required Education and Experience:
JD degree from an accredited law school.
Minimum of 10 years of substantive employment law and litigation experience with a corporate legal department or a nationally recognized firm. 
Member of a State Bar for any U.S. State.  
Experience counseling clients on labor and employment matters and handling labor and employment litigation matters before courts and administrative agencies.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Highly motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; must be proactive in providing counsel to clients.
Sound judgment; ability to make clear and reasoned recommendations; ability to analyze situation and determine who to keep informed. 
Team player with a high level of confidence and discretion.
